When and How Should Christians Oppose Evil?

  • 1 Corinthians 5:12  What have I to do with judging those who are outside?
    • From a church perspective, we have nothing to say about the behavior of outsiders.
    • Romans 13:3 – 4  It is government’s job to handle evil.
  • 2 Corinthians 6:3  We give no offense in anything that our ministry may not be blamed.
    • Colossians 4:6  Let your speech always be seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.
    • 1 Peter 3:15  …always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear, having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed.
  • In the US, we may vote for what we want to happen, run for public office, voice our opinions, and so forth.
    • We have an obligation to participate in government.
    • We must do so in a way that does not cause the gospel to be hindered.
