The Song of Solomon

The Song of Solomon was the turning point in Israelite history for the understanding of marriage.  Previously, like the non-Israelite cultures, marriage was a financial or political transaction.  But Solomon, the man with 300 wives and 700 concubines, introduced the concepts of romance, dedication, loyalty, and monogamy.  The wisest man of all time learned this lesson a bit late, but those who followed have profited greatly.
