Lamentations

Lamentations is Jeremiah’s heartfelt sorrow over the destruction of Jerusalem and Solomon’s Temple by the Babylonians in 536 BC.  Yet, in 3:22 – 24, he wrote, “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not.  They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.  ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘Therefore I hope in Him.’”  Although the entire country had been demolished, more than 90% of the citizens were dead, and the remainder had fled to other countries, Jeremiah had hope.
