Let Your Yes Be Yes and Your No Be No
Matthew 5:33 – 37 In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus generalized the Law (Leviticus 19:12) about making promises to God. To be consistent, a promise is a promise in every situation.
James 5:12 James condensed the same message; promises have no hierarchy. Be consistent with executing promises.
Matthew 12:33 – 37 A tree is known by its fruit. Failing to follow through on what we have promised (idle words), our fruit is bad, therefore the tree must be bad.
2 Corinthians 1:15 – 20 Paul had to change travel plans due to dangers and changing conditions. He found it important to clarify, and that the message and the promises were not subject to such pressures.
Ephesians 4:25 Christians are connected, so what we speak must be the truth. Anything else is self-deception.
